Broadband

Broadband is a term most people are familiar with and has strong connection with communications. Firstly in telecommunication it refers to the bandwidth of frequencies used to carry signals. The higher the bandwidth, the more information that can be transmitted, meaning any signals with broadband will be able to carry clearer messages (for example speech as opposed to Morse code).

However, most people associate Broadband with data communication rather than telecommunication. That is it is associated with the internet and higher web browsing speeds. It essentially means the same as with telecommunication as a higher amount of information can be transmitted through broadband cables than through a telephone modem. It is more technical than this though. With the use of broadband through the internet multiple pieces of information can be sent at the same time meaning a high standard of transmission.

Broadband is also going through somewhat of a revolution as more and more service providers begin to offer what is known as mobile broadband, which enables you to use the internet on the move as long as there is a signal.

One thing's for certain, broadband has made the world of communication much more efficient.
